Q What is a Reading History? We all are born with an innate sense of spoken language and learn how to speak within the first few years of life. Reading, on the other hand, is not a natural. Reading has to be taught. It takes many years of practice to become a proficient reader in any language. A reading history is a personal narrative describing your development as a reader and any circumstances or people that encouraged you or discouraged you in your development. Please read Dr. Tenn's reading history before moving on. Writing your own Reading History To write your own reading history, consider the following: • When did you learn to read? (in your primary language) • Were there any influential people or circumstances that were a positive influence on your development as a reader? • Did you face any roadblocks in your development as a reader? • What kinds of material do you enjoy reading right now? • How does it feel when reading the textbook for this course? You will be assigned to a group of students. Within your groups, please: • Share your reading history to your group. • Comment on the similarities and differences on your reading history and those shared by each of your group members.
